Yishau Mahmood Abubakar. Both men have been indicted in the scandal.

Fayose not recruiting any thugs, APC calling for coup – Aide

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has described the allegation of treasonable comments made against him by the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as not only ridiculous but coming from an unsound mind.
Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Idowu Asdelusi, described as shameless lie, claim by the State Chapter of the APC that the governor was arming ten thugs per local government in the State, saying:
“APC is obviously calling for a coup-de-tat against a governor democratically elected, whose tenure is fixed and mode of possible removal from office is stipulated in the Constitution of Nigeria.”
He‎ said the tone of the press release by the APC really showed the poor state of mind of those running the affairs of party.
"There is no point wrestling with pigs. For people with sound, discerning minds, they would, no doubt, wonder why somebody with a decent background and sound mind would refer to the governor of his state as needing psychiatric attention or not been able to survive in a law abiding society?
"Politics apart, this is madness taken too far and beyond redemption. Governo‎r Ayodele Fayose came and cleaned up the mess left by the APC government of Dr Kayode Fayemi and it's hordes of blood suckers, who made Ekiti State to bleed to a point of coma. He has not only been alive to his duty as the indefatigable leader of the state, but has consistently put smiles on the faces of the people.
He said it was shameful that the same party that ran Ekiti State aground, through reckless borrowing and mismanagement of the State finances could want to present itself as speaking for the people whose future they mortgaged.
He said:
"It‎ was the APC government of Fayemi that came to office and started with bloodletting with the murder of Chief Adeleye Awolumate and ended with no fewer than 12 murders, including a 400 level student of Accounting in the Ekiti State University, Teslim Abiola.
"If the APC goons are piqued that Mr Governor is criticising the President, they can relocate to Abuja and denounce their indiqeneship of Ekiti State. They must know that Governor Fayose, like any other
Nigerian, is exercising his constitutional rights of freedom of speech. He has not breached anybody's rights by constructively commenting on national issues".
“It is obvious that having failed in their efforts to gained access to the Ekiti State Government through the backdoor, they now desired a situation whereby the State Government House will also be invaded by the DSS as it was done in Akwa-Ibom State, but on this one, they will fail as usual.”
“Governor Fayose clearly expressed his minds in the interview they are trying to capitalise on by warning that any attempt to destabilise his government could lead to the downfall of the APC government and he stands by what he said. The governor never said he was going to bring the government of President Mohammadu Buhari down.
“Therefore, Nigerians do not need the apology of a group of shameless hypocrites like the APC in Ekiti State. Rather, what Nigerians need at this time is someone who can look at President Buhari in the eyes and tell him the bitter truth, and that’s exactly what Governor Fayose is doing.
"The APC loudmouths in Ekiti State would do themselves a lot of good by forcing themselves to get over their woeful performance in Ekiti elections and the 'Amalekite-kind' of defeat they suffered in the June 21, 2014 governorship election. For how long would they continue to wall.

TSA: Sokoto government uncovers N1.5billion in idle accounts

Read the press statement below...
Two weeks after the formal introduction of the Treasury Single Accounting (TSA) system in Sokoto, the state government said it has uncovered the sum of N1.5b lying idle in 100 redundant accounts belonging to it in various commercial banks in the country.
The state commissioner of finance, Alhaji Umar Saidu, who stated this in Sokoto Sunday while giving an update on the system's implementation, said government is determined to trace and close down all dormant and inactive accounts operated by it.
He said since the introduction of the TSA, there has been a massive improvement in the reconciliation of public finance figures between the government and commercial banks. This, according to him, has reduced risk of errors in reconciliation processes and has enhanced timeliness and quality of the fiscal figures from such accounts.
The commissioner said the introduction of the TSA has now enabled government to regularly monitor public cash balances while at the same time ensuring higher quality cash  analysis from all accounts hitherto operated by the state government and its agencies.

He added that more analysis are being undertaken efficiently and at regular intervals.
He said the full benefit of the new accounting system would be felt when the implementation of the 2016 budget starts. The document is currently undergoing legislative action with state House of Assembly.
Meanwhile, Sokoto Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Sunday approved the posting and redeployment of new permanent secretaries and directors-general in the state civil service.
A statement issued by his spokesman, Malam Imam Imam, showed that 23 Permanent Secretaries were redeployed while 11 DGs have been sent to various departments and agencies in the state.

Photos: Nigerian fraudster and his brother-in-law who conned victims out of £25 million jailed in London

London-based Nigerian man and his brother-in-law have been jailed for a total of 14 years for their part in a 25 million pound internet fraud involving victims from 55 countries.

Emmanuel Adanemhen, 50,(left) and Eduwu Obasuyi, 40,(right) pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court to their part in sophisticated fraud and money laundering scams, which in some cases targeted the elderly and vulnerable.

A Kent Police spokesman said that Adanemhen arrived in the UK as an asylum seeker in 1998 and had assumed the identity of a deceased Portuguese man by changing his name by deed poll and on driving licences.

The fraudster then used the fake identity to open bank accounts to launder funds from bogus schemes, which included dating website scams, false inheritance scams, overseas lottery wins and shipping frauds.

Police were led to Adanemhen after they apprehended Obasuyi, of Friern Road, East Dulwich, who was arrested as he was about to board a plane from London to Lagos, Nigeria.

Detectives found that the two defendants had moved more than £4 million through their various accounts, which had come from victims in countries around the globe, including Germany, Norway, Switzerland, New Zealand, Canada, United Arab Emirates and across the USA.

One elderly victim from Florida was conned out of $2.9 million, while police estimate the total victims have been conned out of to be more than £25 million.
Adanemhen admitted to conspiracy to defraud, conspiracy to enter into a money laundering agreement and three counts of fraud against the Home Office and the DVLA, which related to his fake documents.

He was ordered to serve seven and a half years in jail. Obasuyi pleaded guilty to conspiracy to enter into a money laundering agreement, and was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Detective Constable Paul Walker, from the Kent and Essex serious crime directorate, said:

"This was a highly sophisticated criminal enterprise with Emmanuel Adanemhen and Eduwu Obasuyi at the heart of operations.
"They were undoubtedly highly placed and trusted individuals, handling and moving millions of pounds obtained through devastating and cruel frauds played out on sometimes very elderly and vulnerable people."

A white South African woman's post refering to black people as monkeys triggers angry response on social media

A post by an estate agent Penny Sparrow from Durban has resulted in a national social media outcry after she took to Facebook on Saturday and referred to black people as monkeys. In her post, Sparrow said:
"These monkeys that are allowed to be released on New Years Eve...on to public beaches, towns etc obviously have no education whatsoever and to allow them loose is inviting huge dirt and discomfort to others," See the full post after the cut...
